What a bad employer Musk seems to be.

  They expect more than 40 hour work weeks from factory workers?! The "minimum 40 hours in the office" - to me - would read like "sure you can do remote work, as long as you are in the office full-time", but if his expectation is people pulling 60+ hour work weeks it becomes "sure you can do remote work, as long as it's after you're done with the regular full-time office shift". Any of which is already terrible on its own.

  To be fair, a lot of US employers talk to their employees this way over email. In person they're slightly less abusive but still on that side of the line. Part of the reason for the massive amounts of quitting and very low productivity going on. If he's doing it to reduce headcount, the people who stay will be mindfully less productive than the people who leave. He's backsliding and in the near future he'll blame everyone else but himself.
