Smart companies will go remote and cut out the middle man, which amusingly the UK gov is discouraging as well.
This is better than nothing, but being in the EU was still better. Sigh.
- Nitrolo 4y agoIf the goal was to attract EU techies this is almost entirely useless. There's only 3 EU universities on the list in the first place, and the only German one (LMU) is known for humanities, while the other Munich University (TUM), which ranks much higher for computer science and engineering, doesn't even enter the list. And this visa is still almost 2 grand in fees and "health surcharges", in addition to "maintenance funds". I'm not convinced this will change much at all, but I don't think that was the purpose anyway.
- hollowdene 4y agoYeah, fair. This is more global in nature and could have been done while we were in the EU, too. The broader point is this is a salve for the skills shortage caused by leaving the EU. You've also perfectly illustrated why basing this on an arbitrary top 50 is stupid in the extreme, but this is government we have.
