I'd say these are the core tips for clean code, but I feel there's one thing that goes a long to make code cleaner and that goes unnoticed all the time: Using empty lines to improve legibility. A simple empty line (added or removed) can effectively visually group parts of the code. Whoever comes next (and that will be most probably be you) will have a much easier time understanding that code.
