The only reason for me to be here is that I find it to give me a competitive advantage over my colleagues (in the IT field). For example, I get to know new relevant tech first, and more important and I get to know relevant opinions of such tech as well.
On the dark side, HN has made me more arrogant when it comes to IT discussions. I'm trying to quit HN, though.

I’ve always been rather conservative in these types of discussion, even to the point of leaving a conversation to verify things I’m already confident about. But I’m just floored at the absolute confidence of things people will say despite them being trivially refuted. I saw someone ask for help configuring some ASP.NET application on IIS and this other person with the utmost confidence told them to abandon IIS because it “had a lot of CVEs” and when asked for an alternative provided an FTP server.
