As I told a contact who works in customer service once, sometimes the customer isn't right. Sometimes the customer tries to defecate on a copy of the new york times or hack the sales system.
So while I appreciate the author sharing their thoughts, I, personally, am tired of folks expecting "exceptional" customer service.
How about instead, we define the default customer experience clearly and honestly, so folks know better if they're being "discriminated" against in a negative way?
For context, I currently reside in Appalachia, a region that I feel needs to worry less about being perceived as unwelcoming, and focus more on setting reasonable boundaries with folks who arrive here uninvited and misunderstand social norms on purpose, always in ways to their benefit.
I notice when you do things like misunderstand concepts plagiarism, but can stop on a dime when you sense if you cross the Threshold to my property line... well, I won't spoil the surprise of what happens when you do that in MY home state :-)
