Probably the Sony DPT-S1 (13") or its successors, the DPT-RP1 (13") and DPT-CP1 (10"), if you can find one. Dedicated document reader for PDFs only, responds very crisply to page turns even for textbooks with diagrams, documents can be copied onto the device over USB so no online account is required.
You can get imported units off eBay or find one of the few remaining North American units on Goodreads' store.
