A political side was able to ram its ideology down everyone's throats and physically exclude everyone who disagreed with them from major aspects of life (I'm in Canada where it's still going on and the ruling party has been even more successful in destroying western values in favor of their own ideology). I have not seen an opportunity like this come along in my lifetime, and I think since WWII there has not been the same level of support for abandoning societal norms to destroy your opponents. So to answer your question, it went very well.
