If Russia were attempting it, half the missiles would miss by miles and take something out in a Kessler zone. IIRC Starlink are LEO and expected to come down. We can only hope that China is competent and any problems remain in LEO. Losing Starlink would be a setback to internet-everywhere but losing the broadcast, security, and science satellites would really suck.
Musk risks losing Tesla/Gigafactory/battery infrastructure and technology if China really gets pissy. Being a billionaire doesn’t mean much when an authoritarian quasi-dictatorship comes at you.
- coffeebeanHH 4y ago> Losing Starlink would be a setback to internet-everywhere It's not as if they were the only provider. How I understood the system it's for them mainly about just directing the transmission to the next ground station. It's less about hopping via laser connection between thesatelites to the other side of the world. At least not in their general subscription plan. Maybe some hand picket client have this privilege. Dunno. Since I can't tell you all their 150..200k users (don't know the number but in 11/2021 was 140k as of [1]) so I can't even guesstimate how big their drop would be. Some might still can fallback to other technologies or providers. Dunno the coverage of Starlink and others on oceans though.
