If fusion really did pan out and make energy abundant it doesn’t matter if they have lots of oil and gas. No one would need it. As many other comments have pointed out though, fusion seems kinda unlikely to actually do that, but arguing that even if it did it wouldn’t change anything is a bit pessimistic for me.
