Tim Robinson built working copies of the Difference Engine out of Meccano [1] a few years ago, and is now involved with Plan 28, a project to build the Analytical Engine, which @jgrahamc provides regular updates to the Computer Conservation Society [2].

- Animats 4y agoSince, after years of work, they haven't cut any metal, maybe they should focus on simulation. Here's an analytical engine simulator.[1] It's just doing the computation, but is not a physical simulation or animation with moving parts. The next step up would be something like this.[2] That's an IBM 1401 simulator in Unreal Engine, with the controls and tape drive movement fully animated.
