My guess is that this is an example of the struggle between proponents of different interpretations of Quantum Mechanics. There are rather a lot of them, even though they all try to explain the same theory. The whole issue eerily reminds me of the debates between proponents of different theories of the relationship between God and Jesus (trinitarians, nontrinitarians and so on). Unless they yield testable predictions, there will not be an end to them.
