Do you have a lemon tree? I've heard that one. The people I tried to iterate on my writing with said I sucked at writing (as they obstructed me on pretty much every front with the information they gleaned.) Later on an actual author told me my "voice" in the literary sense was cool and good. (I made what felt like the right deicison at the time to try to finish my PhD, work as a security researcher, and attempt what I termed "venture socialism" -- paired American style libel law with the fact that propaganda is the selective telling of truths, and that I know a lot of things.)
