Perforce gave me my worst software experience recently. Among numerous other gripes, I finally threw in the towel when I couldn’t - no matter what I tried - get it to acknowledge the existence of my P4IGNORE env.
I get that the way it handles locking of binary files by default is a good fit for game development, but coming from a Git background the thing just felt like a dumpster fire. Incredulous comments from other frustrated users on SO confirmed the impression.
I went with Git LFS, since it also has file locking[1]. See how long I get away with swimming upstream.
