People are pointing out that Lyft and Uber often brought car service to towns without taxies and that is true (and good I suppose). But I do not think that's the business we should be sad about disrupting - Lyft and especially Uber have been fighting hard against all sorts of public transit systems across the US because they view them as competitors. It's unclear how effective they have been, but I also have no love for their intention - which is to lock the public into their service.
