Yeah I still need to collect more feedback on the difficulty. In the first mode the coin pool is limited to more well known coins. In the other modes it's unlikely that the player knows most of the coins and they have to rely on deduction and experience.
The difficulty also greatly depends on which coins are drawn each day. Some logos are much easier to match than others.
After I have more data on this I will make some adjustments, because I really want this game to be winnable by anyone while still providing harder challenges for the players who seek it.
- can16358p 4y agoI think you're on the right track. BTW even when I don't win, I'm learning something in a gamified manner so I don't have problem with losing too. Keep up the good work!
- WhiskasTheCat 4y agoThanks for the kind words! Learning something new even when losing is how it should be. I will expand on this in future updates.
- can16358p 4y agoAnother small thing: on today's coins some of the logos were barely distinguishable from the background color of the square (I'm on iOS (iPhone screen). Tried both dark and light mode, same). Some different color/slight shadow/or a solid background might do the job.
- WhiskasTheCat 4y agoYeah I know about that issue and will try to fix it. It's not that simple though and I cannot make the background one solid color, because there are very bright coin logos too and ones with different gray levels. I also don't want to remove the glass effect of all tiles. Shadow could work but might be too performance intensive to do in real time as the images can be somewhat large (in their original pixel size). Will need to test that. I might need to analyze the brightness of the images in code and then pick a solid background color if they are too dark. By the way, I released an update today that among other things has an easier difficulty setting on the home screen, in case you find the default one too hard. Edit: Just released a quick & dirty fix until I find a more permanent solution: Tile background color now becomes solid when a tile is selected. Some logos like the 2 dark ones today are better visible then but it won't work for all logos.
- can16358p 4y agoYou can experiment with backdrop filters, multiple shadows/opacities and invert() filter to get something that can create some contrast with each logo. Haven't tried but should work.
- WhiskasTheCat 4y agoAh good idea, thanks. Using an invert filter or brightness(0) to create a shadow image should be cheap enough performance-wise.
