Left my startup half a year ago (it's still running) without a major payday.
Took a bit of time to rest, and took a few consulting projects because I really missed those (helping startups solve hard problems is _fun_!). Turns out I make enough hourly that I can work a five hour workweek indefinitely and spend the rest of my time exploring projects, learning, teaching, and resting without skimping on anything I care about. I won't even need to change much if I decide to start a family.
- herodoturtle 4y agoI like your style. Optimal, stimulating, liberating. How do you run your 5-hour-per-week gigs? For example, I block out 2 hours every morning for a decent sum. I'm curious what your structure is, if you'll indulge me. I am most intrigued by your attitude and approach!
- SonOfLilit 4y agoOne customer has me on retainer for 20h/month, I meet with them whenever needed, sometimes hop to their offices just because I'm in the area and working on their stuff with the team around is more fun, when I actually write code it's in long nighttime binges (not recommended, but maximizes fun for me) but a lot of my work there is coordination, design, evangelism. Other than that, I like to take any 2 day or less project that can afford me, because getting to know new industries is awesome. Feel free to email my nick at gmail.
