Sure, some people don't want those things - young single people are more than willing to give up a nice home to be close to cool bars, but it's not a very big part of the population. It's just a rhetorical trick. "Everyone who doesn't like what I like is unhealthy" is just a milder form of the age old "everyone who doesn't think like me has some mental condition that I will use as a pretext for denying their agency and ignoring their opinion" reply. It steers the conversation away from the legitimacy of his opinion and makes people on the other side waste effort proving "no I'm not insane".
