- chrischen 4y agoBeing spread out means you’ll need cars, and it costs more in transportation cost to get things to you, and more things need to be built/consumed because it’ll be harder to share infrastructure of resources. Plus more heating and cooling costs as houses are bigger, and cannot share in heating/cooling. All of this equates to a much larger carbon footprint.
- throw0101a 4y ago> why do we have to prioritize being closer together? Climate change is one reason: * https://transportgeography.org/contents/chapter4/environmental-footprint-of-transportation/urban-density-energy-consumption/ https://transportgeography.org/contents/chapter4/environment... Congestion: if you are driving you are not stuck in traffic, you are traffic. (And EVs may help with climate change, but they don't help with congestion.) And let's not forget the fact that suburban design leads to bankrupt cities: * https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2020/8/28/the-growth-ponzi-scheme-a-crash-course https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2020/8/28/the-growth-pon... * https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJp5q-R0lZ0_FCUbeVWK6OGLN69ehUTVa https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJp5q-R0lZ0_FCUbeVWK6...
