I think the value in cryptocurrency has always been tokens which represent real goods intermixed with a digital, distributed transaction network. Smart contracts are a nice bonus. Unfortunately, early conmen seized the helm of Bitcoin, removed the smart contract opcodes, and led us down the “digital (fools) gold” path.
