Leave it up to the CBC to pull out the largest of stretches. That somehow the Thin Blue Line is related to white supremacists. Laughable at best and overtly malicious at worst.

- jfengel 4y agoThe Thin Blue Line is related to white supremacists. Wikipedia cites a collection of incidents: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_blue_line#Appearances_and_controversy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_blue_line#Appearances_and... You might be able to claim that it's not primarily about white supremacy, but there is no way to claim that it's not related.
- joemazerino 4y agoYour logic amounts to "All cats are animals and therefore all animals are cats". Are all environmentalist related symbols calls for extreme eco-terrorism? No, and this is no different. The Thin Blue Line is specifically worn to support fallen officers in the line of duty. It is a patch worn by various races and genders.
- jfengel 4y agoThe word you used was "related to". That term encompasses a lot of ground. It would be a very strong claim that it's completely unrelated, and that claim is easily shown to be false. I said explicitly that it doesn't mean that all uses of the Thin Blue Line symbol are white supremacist. But it's clear that white supremacists have used that symbol, prominently.
- spoonjim 4y agoYes but you can’t just let white supremacists claim everything that they use. It’s like saying a football player who chooses the number 88 is associating with white supremacy.
- foxyv 4y agoAlso, keep in mind that the Thin Blue Line flag is often used as a dog whistle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_whistle_(politics) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_whistle_(politics)
- joemazerino 4y agoThe word you used was "related to". Unsure if you're making a grammatical or spelling mistake here. White supremacists have used many symbols. Should all swastikas be banned from Buddhist and Hindu temples? Should Roman Eagles be destroyed? "Dog whistles" and massive reaches for equivalence and connection are precisely why the majority of people are tuning out the left.
- chownie 4y agoTo tie this back, your original point was that the relation was a stretch. The goal posts have now moved to accusations of support for destroying religious symbols.
- rekabis 4y agoNow that’s a stunning display of cultivated ignorance.
