Honey, I Shrunk the Tokamak
- wesoff 4y agoThis tiny fusion reactor is made out of commercially available parts Nuclear startup Avalanche Energy has modest funding, a skeleton crew, a pocket-sized prototype — and grand ambitions.
- gus_massa 4y agoSorry for nitpicking, but is this a Tokamak? The description is not very clear, I think they are not using a donut shaped confinement device. Edit: Their webpage https://www.avalanche.energy/ https://www.avalanche.energy/ has a few graphics, and they are definitively not using a Tokamak.
- wesoff 4y agoDefinitely not a tokamak.
- AtlasBarfed 4y agoYeah their front page describes five means of doing fusion, and then a supposed demo unit. This is perilously close to a zero point energy scam. If they can generate sustained positive energy from suitcase fusion, let's see at least one published paper.
- gus_massa 4y agoMy guess is that the demo unit can do some fusion, but it's not sustainable. (Like all the other 4 technologies listed in their page.) I'm not sure that this is a scam, but I can't find a good technical description in their page. The description in the main page somewhat makes sense, but it feels like technobabble.
