This is a heart wrenching read. I wish Wil all the best and I'm happy he did not harm himself.
I would also like to invite him to try and see the positive sides of his experience. It shaped him into a man that has been a role model for millions of young men via Star Trek. It may not have been what he wanted, but I'm glad he ended up doing it.
I don't know what depression feels like, but if can tell you that watching Wil Wheaton play tabletop games has always left me with a better mood than I had before.
So thank you, Wil, for bringing joy into my life. Don't let bad parts of your past define who you are.
To me, your tabletop games have been more inspirational than your Star Trek work. Lesser men would have cancelled the show when they found out they have a dice curse. You not only didn't cancel the show, you gracefully continued playing because to you it was just as important that the others have fun than that you yourself have fun. You, sir, are a legend and an inspiration, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

- fefe23 4y agoHelping others gives meaning to life. It's a way of leaving a legacy.
- watwut 4y agoPeople don't have to be famous actors to see meaning in their lives. He does not think the experience was good for him. Unlike his character, Will Wheaton is real person. Also, his character was hardly the "role model for millions of young men" one. It was not written that way and afaik Wesley was not treated that way by fans.

I doubt fefe23 has ever seen TNG, because Wesley was in no way, shape, or form a desirable role model for anyone. (My understanding is that Wesley was sort of a self insert for Star Trek creator, Eugene Wesley Roddenberry. As with all of the other times Roddenberry tried to artificially impose his own Message(TM) on the show, it failed miserably.)
- wccrawford 4y agoSince he's still actively an actor, I think he understands the benefits from the situation. Here he's talking about the abuse he went through to get there, and how awful it was. He doesn't need to temper it with the good parts. We all know them, including him.
