I think any restrictions on gun ownership are unconstitutional. Primarily because I don't think the founding fathers minced words about the purpose of the second amendment, but mostly I don't trust the government at all. I have never met a gun owner who does trust the government, or supports regulation and I've spent a lot of time around them. So I'll have to disagree with your supposition.
