Drew has built himself a reputation of complaining loudly about stuff that most of the general public of users don't care about and generally unnecessarily increasing the burden for Open Source maintainers. In this particular case I think he has a valid point but his history is probably getting in the way of successfully getting people to see it. The lesson here, is that if you make everyone dislike dealing with you then you'll find it very hard to get them to work with you when you need them to.
