I don't think there are too many folks -- NRA or otherwise -- who are actually campaigning to prevent private organizations from being able to prohibit firearms on their property.
This headline is purporting to create a hypocrisy controversy to score political points -- and it may well work, since people will see what they want to see -- but it's pretty weak sauce. The NRA campaigns (or, at least, purports to campaign) for gun rights, which include the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms, including the right to carry in public.
That's kinda not the same thing at all as saying that (non-State) property owners can't set the rules of entry to their property such that one may not enter while carrying arms.

- gamblor956 4y agoThe NRA actually has campaigned to prevent private organizations from being able to prohibit firearms on their property, vis a vi lobbying for concealed carry laws that force businesses to allow gun owners to carry weapons on the business' property. Only a minority of concealed carry states allow business owners to "opt out" of the law and restrict weapons on their property.
- Eddy_Viscosity2 4y agoIt is hypocrisy to for the NRA to campaign for effectively unrestricted gun ownership and open and concealed carry rights in public places, but then be ok with saying no guns allowed at their own meeting. If people carrying guns isn't safe for NRA meetings, then why should be ok at any other place? Why should public spaces be less safe than an NRA meeting?
