I don't understand why none of the big players have released an ergonomic mechanical keyboard. I've got a stash of MS natural keyboards I picked up on a closeout a couple years ago, and they are the ones I scatter around my home/office. But while the layout/ergonomics are decent they are like typing on a sponge.
A year or two ago, I found cloudnine, which is almost exactly what I was looking for in an ergonomic keyboard (actually split) and as a bonus it uses cherry switches. It also has programmable macro keys, and a backlight, two features I don't tend to need/notice but probably attracts some users.
I can't say its perfect, I was getting stuck modifier keys with one of the older firmware revisions, and the desktop app, allows some level of key layout changes, macro programming, and color selection. But in all cases its apparently developer cycle limited, because some obvious features are poorly thought out or missing (aka why can i change individual key colors but not the big knob color, or reprogram its functionality from the app instead having to use the function key modifier shortcuts to change its behavior).
