I have used AWS CDK for IaC and for the most part, it works great. It also has escape hatches for constructs that are not yet implemented in the CDK API that you could fall back on CloudFormation templates or whip out a custom resource, if you are so inclined. For the most part, the constructs provided out of the box has good defaults and the documentation helps. The aws-cdk support team is also responsive on issues/bugs reported. This is just based on my experience and I started off as a total noob on AWS.
