  Why would it be less thick? Each half still has to hold the same stuff - battery, screen, keypad, etc. In my experience, the candy bar sliders I used in the past were thicker than flip phones.

  Protective cover? Isn't the screen exposed in a candybar slider when closed? This is meant to be a jobsite phone so being fully closed is probably a pro.
