Amazon EC2 C7g Instances
- cperciva 4y agoI got early access and ran some benchmarks on FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE: http://www.daemonology.net/blog/2022-05-23-FreeBSD-Graviton-3.html http://www.daemonology.net/blog/2022-05-23-FreeBSD-Graviton-...
- arinlen 4y agoCan you by any chance also throw some x86 data into the mix? It would be interesting to have apples-to-apples comparisons between Graviton and x86-based instances, as the price/performance gimmick reflects AWS's willingness to offer steep discounts to push their own line of processors.
- lizthegrey 4y agoHere's some x86 vs arm comparisons from 2020 substantiating "20% faster and 20% cheaper" -- https://www.honeycomb.io/blog/observations-on-arm64-awss-amazon-ec2-m6g-instances/ https://www.honeycomb.io/blog/observations-on-arm64-awss-ama... AWS isn't offering steep discounts IMO, they're reflecting the true cost to run the processors in terms of cost of licencing the processor IP and the cost of the power/cooling the processors require. I suspect they are getting better margins on the Graviton line than on the conventional Intel/AMD chips even after giving the relative price discount.
- lizthegrey 4y agoWe have real-world performance results here: https://www.honeycomb.io/blog/present-future-arm-aws-graviton-honeycomb/ https://www.honeycomb.io/blog/present-future-arm-aws-gravito... Oh, and btw, we're a ~100% Graviton2/3 shop now!
- cperciva 4y agoI'm guessing you don't have any presence in Africa? Unfortunately the Cape Town region is still gravitationally challenged. :-(
- lizthegrey 4y agous-east-1 only for now.
- myroon5 4y agoMore expensive than the last generation (C6g) for the same amount of memory and vCPU. That's a first
