Crash safety is one reason. I like the idea of commuting on an electric bike, except that if a deer jumps in front of me I'm probably dead.
In my car, I have an extremely good chance of survival if I hit something or lose control.
Small light cars would fall somewhere between an average car and a motorbike, but still going to be less safe for the occupants than a larger vehicle.
- _carbyau_ 4y agoTo survive a deer could be engineered for. The bigger issue I see is people wanting to one up in size against other humans in their cars. Everything is a damn "SUV" now despite it not being for Sports or Utility. What they are is taller and heavier which gives people reassurance. But once people see other vehicles are taller and heavier, well now they want something to match to protect their family in the event of a crash. I don't know how to stop this cycle.
