Oh and one for the armchair warriors, did the old tortured history of ZFS patents/licensing woes cross your mind?
- mtlynch 4y agoThanks for reading! >Did you consider using the onboard m2 SSD as a slog device? Oh, I didn't think I could. I thought it claims the whole disk, and I'm using it as the OS disk. Does TrueNAS support using a single SSD as both the OS and the SLOG? That would be great because I'm using so little of the disk, but I don't see an option for it. >Did you try any sort of tuning to increase read speed? No, I couldn't find a good guide on what options to change. Any recommendations? >did the old tortured history of ZFS patents/licensing woes cross your mind? For my needs, not really. I didn't dig too deeply into the history, but I saw there have been disputes, and that's why OS X ended up not using it for their time machine feature. It would be a bummer if it shuts down OpenZFS at some point, but I don't know of another open-source alternative that's a decent alternative. I guess Proxmox but it seems too optimized for VMs to do a great job as a NAS.
