Just curious why is baby formula not able to be made by hand?
- amluto 4y agoIf you try to make it by hand, you might end up following instructions like this: https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/childrens-health/formula-homemade-baby-formula/ https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/childrens-health/... This is an amazing page. It has no credible citations. It recommends bizarre ingredients (raw chicken liver, frozen for a minimum of 14 days!) [0]. It likes raw milk (just don’t do that please). It thinks egg yolk is critical at 4 weeks but egg white can’t be given to babies less than 1 year old. Or you could feed your baby something that is tested as being fit for its purpose and is (nominally) tested as free from dangerous contamination by a disinterested (and nominally competent) government agency. I know which one I would pick. [0] There are pathogens that are inactivated by prolonged freezing. And there are plenty that aren’t. The ones that I’d be most worried about in raw factory-processed meat (salmonella, listeria) will quite happy survive freezing and thawing.

One of the weird things about food for babies is that the official recommendations change from country to country. I never heard that here in Argentina, but it's totally possible that some MD are telling that, because each one has her/his favorite list or forbidden foods. The only food that is in all lists is honey, because it's not pasteurized and may have botulism. (Nut I'd not be surprised if it's not forbidden in other countries.)
