‘What are our lives for?’: a philosopher answers kids’ existential questions
- natch 4y agoWhat are our lives for? There is no pre-established assignment given to us, but there is a wonderful project we can willingly take up if we'd like to, and it gives life great meaning every single day: Do whatever we can to make the afterlife as good as possible. And by afterlife, I don't mean heaven, or something imaginary like that. I mean the real, actual afterlife, the lives of people who live on after us. Sure, we don't get to experience this afterlife ourselves, but it's fulfilling to try to make it great. Meantime, also try to improve our own lives, and have fun, and make some mistakes, and learn, and love.
- salawat 4y agoWake up every day. Try to leave the world a smidge better for you having been around than not. Rinse. Repeat.
- tracnar 4y agoThe questions in the article are not too related to 'what are your lives for'. I'd argue that since we made up that question, we are responsible to answer it. So there may be as many answers as there are people (but less, essentially the reason we have religions).
