The case cluster in Montreal was discovered by a STI testing clinic. The longest ever recorded chain of community transmission was 6 people. It's not easily spread. It's not considered an STI, but not because it doesnt act exactly like an STI (it does), but because it's also spread in other ways as well. Put it altogether, and the big story here is that Monkeypox is making a run for it as an STI in a population that invented the most successful hookup app ever, Grindr. Except to say that out loud is pretty verboten. Lots of ready to fight Allies out there controlling the messaging on this one right now. They don't even like that public health agencies are giving a special warning to the LGBTQII+ community as that's deemed stigmatization even if it helps that exact community avoid real physical harm.
