1. Monorepo is fine. Your customers (if it's a business) or employers (if it's a portfolio) won't care either way.
2. If it's an open-source project or a portfolio make it public.
Just don't make the mistake of thinking that if you build it they will come. If it's a SaaS you are in the customer development business, product development is just a part of it.
