GameBoy Graphics: Tiles, Palettes, and Encoding [video]
- joemi 4y agoPretty nice video. Hopefully he makes more (beyond the shorts).
- cosmiccatnap 4y agoGood first video I really enjoyed it. I always liked how the Gameboy works from how it looks and sounds to the way people found clever ways to get effects on the limited hardware like screen wipes and blur.
- loudthing 4y agoReally cool video. I love it when people teach concepts through using the concepts themselves (like how he shows himself in an accurate Gameboy display matrix and even "fades" the video of himself as he explains how fading worked).

- alexb_ 4y agoLove this! Reminds me a lot of RetroGameMechanicsExplained with the very clear visuals showing exactly "how the computer thinks".

- ghusbands 4y agoNot really - the youtube video here is much more useful than a laggy custom video system that both takes a long time to start and fails to synchronise sound correctly.
- pjmlp 4y agoGreat way to explain the subject.
- fortyseven 4y agoWish he talked a little more naturally. Felt like I was a five year old listening to him.
- jordanwallwork 4y agoI agree, some interesting info there but I struggled with the delivery

- paoda 4y agoAgreed. It's a wonderful talk. I'm elated that discoveries are still being made. Since this talk, the understanding has come to be that there are two independent pixel FIFOs. One responsible for sprites, and the other for background and window tiles.
