I graduated from college in 1988. Here's the total extent of my parent's involvement in my college career:
Mom: Pulls up to my apartment at the start of sophomore year. Gives me enough time to pull out a couple of suitcases, a few bags of groceries and a cooler of beer. Then she digs in her purse and pulls out a $50 dollar bill and hands it to me. I ask her if she wants to come up and see the place. She says no because she has to get back home for some reason or another.
Dad: "Where do I send these checks"? "Don't waste my money"

- cafard 4y agoWe dropped off our kid at college in the late oughts. We spoke over the phone now and then--perhaps it was once a week, probably less often. We had only the vaguest idea of what classes he took, and as far as I know never saw his grades. It would never have occurred to us to engage in surveillance.
