Kinda works w/ mercurial.
$ hg init foo
$ cd foo
$ echo ".hgignore" > .hgignore
$ hg st
$ rm .hgignore
$ touch .hgignore
$ hg st
? .hgignore
... apart from the ignored folder. Mercurial can't do that.
