It's interesting that Tesla has chosen not to use geofencing for passive keyless entry since the app knows where the car was last parked. It would make sense that if it receives a cryptographic challenge from the car, it would only respond if it was inside of the geofenced boundary for the vehicle, provided by the phone's location services.
