The hybrid countries : Singapore , Monaco, UAE, Macao, Bahrain look incredibly appealing right now. Even though they are autocracies they are ruled by benevolent dictators and that undercuts the whole political wars which honestly are very tiring for a regular individual who doesn't want to become a good actor and mimic the person you are talking to in blaming the woke liberals/alt-right.
- etempleton 4y agoThe problem with benevolent dictators is that they eventually die.
- ss108 4y agoWhy do you feel the need to "mimic" anyone in that respect?
- Bubble_Pop_22 4y agoBeing politically neutral or not interested in politics is the equivalent of being an enemy in the world of "either with us or against us"
- ss108 4y agoWhether or not that's a morally defensible position that you take, you can still defend it. If the rest of us judge you an enemy, why not consider that our problem or error? If you have cogent reasons for shrugging at the existence of neo-nazis and social justice warriors and their respective agendas, why not assert them? You don't need to please everybody else by parroting back at them what you think they want to hear.
- Bubble_Pop_22 4y agoLife is too short to write people off entirely. A person who is very adamant about enjoying life is able to throw a political bone to the person they are talking to and then shift the conversation towards baseball, women, cars, football, jokes, beer etc. You know, the important stuff! Political ideas run very deep, but people only feel the need to voice them when they feel like they'd be able to convert another person to make them join the ranks. When they believe you are already part of the tribe they relax

Even though they are autocracies they are ruled by benevolent dictators The problem with benevolent dictatorships is that the apex of the pyramid is incredibly attractive to intelligent psychopaths and other predators, and it typically only takes one of those making it to the top to strip away the benevolence. And intelligent psychopaths are also pretty good at rung-climbing. In the US, that same segment is usually attracted to the private sector rather than public service, where there is at least no single apex (small comfort though that may be) so it forms an oligarchy, and the executive branch is tangled in various checks and balances (inadequate as those sometimes seem).
