How much of Japan's declining birthrate has been due to 30 years of stagflation? I only ask because seems to be where the US is headed economically. Is a declining US birthrate on the horizon?
- jleyank 4y agoThe us birthdate is below replacement and has been for a while. Immigration and the Hispanic population held up the population through 2015 and everything was downwards by 2019 sez google. Cost of living requiring 2-income families and the lack of parental leave or day care puts pressure on the family unit. Don’t see the us doing much to affect this, either.
- jimmygrapes 4y agoCareful there, using the term "replacement" is fraught at the moment in this context.
- wfhordie 4y agoIt’s really not a fraught term in demography, which is this context.
- wfhordie 4y agoNo. The US will simply import more people.
