They don't want to admit this because it would require too much self-reflection, but fundamentally they think that someone else wants to do it to them because they did it first.

Most of the "whites" in the US, and particularly the poor and uneducated class which comprises the majority of white supremacists, are relatively recent immigrants who have little connection to the genocides of the past.
