Why homophobia against straight men matters
- raxxorraxor 4y agoI think society is even further on that question than the journalistic clique here or maybe this is just the story they use to elevate themselves above the peasants. There are a lot of communities that reclaimed these words for others and the parallels to islamophobia is questionable itself. Insults stopp if they just bounce off like the examples given in the text. They got the power back fairly recently.
- PaulHoule 4y agoCirca 1990 there was a gay bashing gang at my school that seemed to only bash straights that stood up for gays, even in small ways, because I think they were afraid they’d get AIDS if they bashed an actual gay.
- EddieDante 4y agoThe homophobia isn't the problem. Neither is the bullying. The problem is that too many people think they have the right to act as "masculinity police", judging the men around them and seeking to punish men who don't measure up to some arbitrary standard, and they go unpunished. ACAB (all cops are bastards) includes vigilantes who play at gender-policing.
