Whether or not his site is meeting his goals is his business. I find this a really interesting post, because I'm also dealing with excessive bot traffic (it's generally about half of my overall), and specifically how to salvage analytics data when there's so much noise. Seeing what other people are doing to combat it helps me, regardless of whether you might think of them as successful or not.
