This depends on the workload, even for the heavily optimized Java and JavaScript, it's only just as fast as Hotspot and V8, if you care about throughput. When you care about startup time or it's binary size, it's on the slower end of spectrum.
The API is simple to use, if your language is written in Java. OP mentions using Rust, so it's probably not a huge win for him.
