Ask HN: What Replaced Meetup?
I recently moved, and I want to discover local meetups. I have a vague recollection that Meetup.com more or less died after going pay-to-play.
So, what replaced it as the go-to for finding local meetups?
- mdtrooper 4y agoMeetup is alive, but it is more or less as you say, the groups has cost (normally the people from a group paid together). There is a free software alternatives (but I don't know if there are good servers with a lot of people and groups running): https://joinmobilizon.org/en/ https://joinmobilizon.org/en/
- WalterGR 4y ago> pay-to-play What do you mean? You have to pay to run a meetup, but every event in the dozens of groups I'm a member of has been free.
- bovermyer 4y agoThat's what I'm referring to. After it established the fee to post a meetup, it seemed like all the groups I was interested in vanished.
- WalterGR 4y agoAh. I mean, maybe that happened in the past, but I think Meetup is still the place to find meet-ups. I was a member of maybe 75 groups when I lived in the Washington, DC area. And I'm discovering plenty where I am now.
