What’s new in Fedora Workstation 36
- LinuxBender 4y agoI tried out F36. The version of Wine shipping with it handled many games out of the box without having to use winetricks. It looked snazzy and booted up fast. The downsides for me were the dialing home dependencies that if blocked would break the desktop. I don't know if this is going the route of windows 10 telemetry, hopefully not but either way it just wasn't for me personally. That said I think many people would find Fedora 36 to be a great desktop.
- h4waii 4y agoCan you provide some more information about this? Is it Gnome or Fedora, and what/where are these packages or sources of telemetry?
- LinuxBender 4y agoIt was their default installation. I did not customize anything on the install. This list is not all inclusive as some things still made it through but this is the list of domains I had blocked. I had to unblock copr-be for dnf to work. The most chatty one was admin.fedoraproject.org. The desktop interacted heavily with that one. local-zone: "proxy-iad01.fedoraproject.org." always_nxdomain local-zone: "copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org." always_nxdomain local-zone: "admin.fedoraproject.org." always_nxdomain local-zone: "registry.fedoraproject.org." always_nxdomain local-zone: "proxy36.fedoraproject.org." always_nxdomain I installed a different OS so I don't really have a good way to provide more details. One could fire it up in a VM to recreate the behavior.
