DeepMind’s New ‘Gato’ AI Makes Me Fear Humans Will Never Achieve AGI
- mpalmer 4y agoHeadline is clickbait. In the post the writer is clear that he just doesn't see a path to AGI in the latest advances, which is basically the status quo for such developments. There is not much in terms of novel insight here.
- karmakaze 4y agoWas about to comment then found there's no point to debate than a vague viewpoint. This story is the #3 top story on thenextweb.com and the others aren't for me either.
- nightowl_games 4y agoI think the author is underestimating the significance of progress that has been made. I'm reading The Age of AI by Eric Schmidt and he establishes the significance of the AI developed anti-biotic Halicin as well as many others. AI is a big deal. I can't help but feel that this is cynicism masquerading as insight, and question the basis upon which the author forms this opinion.
- zach_garwood 4y agoIs AGI modern alchemy, Science-adjacent but ultimately asking the wrong question? Assuredly, lead can be transmuted into gold, but it doesn't take a philosopher's stone; it takes a star and a few billion years. Maybe artificial general intelligence is possible, but it just takes so much time and energy as to be humanly impractical.
