Apple is testing USB-C iPhone models for 2023
- ggm 4y agoI like the mechanics behind lightning, but I prefer the RAND in USB-C. That central fillet, it has to be weaker than a simple male female outcome. There's very little to break in a lightning cable, no hole to get full of pocket dirt on the part most likely to be dropped or scrobbled for in dirt. Ultimately, single charger/cable is a social good, but the path is rocky: a lot of moaning about "no bundled charger" is the least of it. USB-c is really about the mechanics. The whole is it TBird is it high power is it audio capable can it do 4k is a continuing shit show. Thats sad, but a single mechanical connector is useful. (Pixel and currently Moto owner but I know a lot of iPhone owners) I bought the wrong model zendure 18,000 MAh powerbank, only USB-A style outlets and this is my life now, because nothing charges fast and I can't charge my laptop. But a $50 cheapo I got in a supermarket has USB-c and there's hope for the future. More expensive isn't always better.
- zeristor 4y agoThe Apple Watch series 7 has a contactless data link running at 60.5 GHz https://9to5mac.com/2021/09/23/watch-series-7-secret-60-ghz-wireless/ https://9to5mac.com/2021/09/23/watch-series-7-secret-60-ghz-... perhaps supply is limited at the moment, but I’d guess in time a contactless charger data pad on usb-c could be coming for the iPhone. Has anyone prodded and probed this to see how it works what it can do? I’m pretty impressed with the idea of it, but it doesn’t seem to be that well known about, perhaps a university lab has been analysing it? Is this tech built used else where if so where? If not then wouldn’t that be fascinating? Perhaps there’s some near-field contactless thing going on, magnets in the pad keeping it in the right orientation.
