- aurizon 4y agoYes, Russia = Russia. I had an idea based on the phasing. A phased array directs the signal with antennas that are steered by subtle delays introduced to the rise/fall of the transmitted/received signal on active basis. The Fourier sum of these waves creates the transmit and receive path. These antennas also create numerous side lobes, an antenna pattern would reveal this. The main beam maximises at the satellite, and the receptive focus is also the satellite, closely followed across the sky and shifting to the next satellite in line. Lots of high speed computational stuff. I was curious if there was a way to create and antenna shroud of green painted aluminium foil that reduce these side lobes? I am not sure if the satellites that serve Ukraine follow a track where most travel, so a shroud would reduce lobes to north/south or whatever, as the sidelobes can be detected and after a number of detections of what is transmitted and locus within which there is a station. It also occurred that a 'fake site' could be created that would resemble true side lobes - same frequency- buzz etc. that you could locate far away in the woods to waste the time of the Russians as it would mimic a real station and at the end that time in, say a swamp or lake would be wasted, and the russian will not have man things to act as detectors at these frequencies? As a ham radio member, we often had many hidden transmitter chases - and this is the same thing at the 18+ gigahertz band. I am sure test equipment in these bands is restricted, but people find ways and Russia has a number of good labs that had high Ghz stuff in use before the sanctions limited new buys.
